This is evidenced by the register of memorable dates just published by the Transcarpathian Regional Universal Scientific Library ( a calendar of anniversaries will also be published soon).
The biggest anniversaries are the 400 years since the beginning of the Thirty Years’ War and the 100th anniversary of the end of the First World War, both of which affected Transcarpathia. The last date is related to a number of other anniversaries – in particular, 100 years since the establishment of the first People’s Councils in our region, the proclamation of the Hutsul Republic, the granting of the autonomy to our region as a part of Hungary.
It will have been 700 years since the date when counts Druget occupied Uzhgorod for four centuries. It will be 555th anniversary of the oldest written mention of our mineral waters – in the letter of magnate Dolgay from Svalyava district to King Matyash. 425th annivarsary of Transylvanian prince Gyorde the First Rakoczi, who was the ruler of Transcarpathian lands. The prince himself was an ally of Bogdan Khmelnytsky, their forces fought together against the Polish nobility, but were defeated.
Also, it will have been 170 years since the beginning of the "Spring of Peoples", the Austrian Revolution, during which the statute labor was canceled. The Carpathian Biosphere Reserve will turn 50 years old.
Also, it will have been 80 years since the date when our region received autonomous status as part of Czechoslovakia. Thus, 80 years since Khust, for three months, became the capital of the Autonomous Carpatho-Ukraine, where the Carpathian Sich was created – a distant prototype of our recent volunteer battalions.
Also, it will be the 100th anniversary of one of the leaders of Carpatho-Ukraine Yuriy Shanta.
There will also be many jubilees of active artists and scholars. So, this year, despite all its socio-economic difficulties, is going be rich in various anniversary events.
