Last night, near the Drama Theater, someone destroyed the trees planted there the day before to replace the old ones, that were cut down on demand of the owner of the land where the scandalous construction began.
Recall that recently on a bed near the Music and Drama Theater, magnificent old spruce trees were cut down. It turned out that the land had long been a private property (the area was carved up when Ratushniak was the mayor) and the owner is going to build a shopping center with parking lot there.
Uzhgorod residents protested. At the request of the community, the City Council canceled building permits.
And yesterday, activists, with the participation of the former chairman of the Regional Council, public figure Volodymyr Chubirko planted young silver fir trees to replace the destroyed ones. However, by morning, they were already gone. The trees were not just cut down, but dug out and thrown into the pit (which they have already started digging for the foundation) and into the surrounding bushes.
Here is how Mr. Volodymyr commented this on his facebook:
"I sincerely hoped that this would not happen… I suspected, but I hoped that at least a little common sense is left in Uzhgorod, and a little love for their native city in the local "rulers of the world". Although it is not native for everyone, of course.
The system of lawlessness and wickedness, which has been prevailing in the regional center for decades, will not give up easily. Therefore, we must fight for Uzhgorod. Break the system. Like they have been literally and figuratively breaking us during all these years."
It is unknown whether law enforcement will respond to the act of vandalism.
