The murder of a Roma woman in Beregovo seems to be accidental, and most likely happened because of the conflict between Roma people.
"So far, we have no reason to believe that it was racially motivated. She was going from one camp to another, but until the case is solved, it’s hard to say for sure. We hope that it will be quickly solved," – Yaroslav Halas, the spokesman of the Transcarpathian Regional State Administration, said in a comment to the OBOZREVATEL.
According to him, conflict between Roma people occur quite often.
"We believe that it is not related to anti-Roma sentiments, but it still led to death. As far as we know, there was no intention to kill her, but the carotid artery was hit, otherwise she would have been alive," – the spokesperson of the Transcarpathian Regional State Administration said.
According to Halas, there are few problems with Roma in Transcarpathia, they live in each district, and everybody is used to them, although there are some problems with behavior.
"Yes, there are problems with Roma in Transcarpathia, but the solution is very simple, the law-enforcement system must do their job. And if they don’t, then lynching happens. When a person can not find justice in their opinion (which may be subjective), they try to do it by themselves. If there are complaints about Roma, you have to go to the police; if the police do not do anything, it leads to lynching. But it’s important not to cross the line, as it happened in Lviv – that was horrible," – he says.
In addition, in the Transcarpathian region there is a program for socialization of the Roma.
