The regional local historian academic competition of Transcarpathia was held in Uzhgorod

The 6^th Regional local historian academic competition among 8-10^th grade pupils of regional secondary schools was held in Transcarpathian museum, on April 25, 2012. 35 pupils from different Transcarpathian districts participated in the academic competition.

The academic competition ‘Transcarpathian local historian’ was launched in 2005 originally at the local level, and then at the regional one by the academic museum staff with the active assistance of the Culture Department Science and Education of the Transcarpathian Regional State Administration.

Since that time every year on the eve of the International Museum Day, young local historians gather in the chapel of Uzhgorod Castle in one of the most valuable historical and architecture monuments of the region. The Transcarpathian center of tourism, local history, excursions and sports of student youth is the co-organizer of the event for the sixth year in a row.

The aim of such competition is in the young people encouragement to learn more about their native land – the Transcarpathian region, its nature, historical and cultural heritage.

The director of the Transcarpathian Regional Museum Sheba Vasil and the director of the Transcarpathian center of tourism, honored teacher of Ukraine, the candidate of pedagogical sciences Chepa Volodymyr and the scientists of museum welcomed the academic competition participants and wished them good luck.

The questions from natural history, archeology, history and ethnography of Transcarpathia were included into the test tasks. The head of the research and educational work department of the museum Bugir Olga, the head of the methodical department of the Transcarpathian tourist center Tymko Maria took part in the organization of the event. The research workers of Transcarpathian Regional Museum: Kobal Yosyp, Ph.D. of Historical Sciences, the Head of the Archeology Department, Rusyn Valeria, Scientific Secretary of the museum, Dzhahman Ruslan, the Head of the Nature Department Lesho Larisa, the Head of the A. Voloshyn and Modern History Department Hrybanych Illia, the Senior Researcher of Folk art and Ethnography Department made test tasks and assessed the pupils works.

According to the tests results of the regional contest the winner of the 6^th ‘Transcarpathian local historian’ became Kostyk Mykhailo, pupil of the 10-B secondary school №6 named after Grendzhi-Donskoho in Uzhgorod. The second place was taken by the pupil of the 10-B of Rakhiv secondary school №1 Bilous Ivan, the third place won the pupil of the 10-A of Rakhiv secondary school №2 Dezhenitskyy Vasil.

The winners of the academic competition were awarded with diplomas of the Culture Department Science and Education Administration and valuable gifts. The gifts have received also all other academic competition participants and teachers who were preparing them.

Interesting sightseeing tour of the displays and exhibitions of the Transcarpathian Regional Museum was held by the research assistant of the Scientific and Educational work Department Kostik Victoriia for the academic competition participants.

We are sure, young local historian will remember this meeting in Uzhgorod castle for a lifetime.
