The project of the square around the Greek Catholic Cathedral will be presented in Uzhgorod (Announcement)

In Uzhgorod, there will be the presentation of ​the square under the project

 initiated by the Mukachevo Greek Catholic diocese and the Institute of Postgraduate Education.

The presentation will be held with the participation of the Bishop of Mukachevo Greek Catholic Eparchy Milan and the Director of the Transcarpathian Institute of Postgraduate Education Tetyana Palko.

Historical information about the square:

The formation of the squre began in the 17th century and was associated with the construction

 of the Jesuit College at that site. In the foundation charter of the College dated July 31, 1640,

issued by Janos Druget, it was stated that to accommodate buildings for the future college, school and church,

the ktitor at his own expense shall relocate city residents from there and donate

 the College students his garden, which was situated opposite the College (where the squre with park is planned to be arranged).

 In the first half of the XX century. this area belonged to the Basilian sisters monastery until its violent

liquidation in 1948.
