Three Transcarpathians, were holding a foreigner in a car and demanded from him a large sum of money, threatening with physical violence. A friend of the victim reported it to the police, and law enforcement officers managed to quickly detain members of the criminal group and free the victim.
Yesterday, March 30, in the evening, a citizen of a foreign country reported to the police that three unknown persons were demanding money from his friend, also a foreigner. The applicant witnessed the unknown persons getting into his friend’s car and forced him to drive to an unknown destination.
Employees of the regional department of criminal investigation established the whereabouts of the victim’s car, caught up with it, blocked the exits and arrested the extortionists. There were three of them – all local residents, employees of a private security firm. It turned out that the men had been holding the foreigner in his car for several hours, threatening him with physical violence and demanding 50 thousand dollars.
The police officers seized from the criminals knives, gloves, masks and plastic collars, that they probably intended to use on the victim.
The police have started criminal proceeding over this incident under Part 2 of Art. 189 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, that is extortion. All members of the criminal group were to a temporary holding facility. Today, the investigator will appeal to the court requesting to impose on the criminals the pretrial restraint in the form of detention. The detainees face imprisonment for a term of three to seven years. The pretrial investigation continues.
