The place where the soul rests. Climbing the Javornik (PHOTOS, REPORT)

Transcarpathia is a colorful region with many interesting places to see. Especially in winter.

You can walk down the frosty embankment and watch the swans, join the design world with clothes for mini sculptures, walk to the Uzhgorod Castle and end up inside a medieval fairy-tale.

But if you like extreme, just a little, you can, for example, climb a mountain top.

A reporter of Uzhgorod.in went to the peak of Javornik, which is well known among local residents and visitors. But you should be well prepared to the climb.

The main important points, when planning a trip to the top of the mountain, are the choice of clothes and shoes, and of course a trusted instructor, otherwise you may get lost or sick. So hiking boots are the most important thing for the trip. They are durable, lightweight, waterproof, and have a good grip with the soil. Underwear which absorbs moisture from the body. This will prevent any discomfort during the trip.

Jacket should be light, warm and waterproof. Because the weather in the mountains is fast-changing. In short, you should be wearing comfortable clothes.

Now, properly dressed up and having all necessary things, we can start our trip.

We get off. We meet Victor – he wil guide us in this journey.

To save time, we take a taxi to the village of Rusky Mochar. From there, we start our real journey.

Rusky Mochar is a small Transcarpathian village with a population of just over a hundred people. It is located at the foot of the Javornik (1021m).

Tourists, who have already conquered this peak, know several ways to get there. The major routes to the mountain include climbing from the town of Velyky Berezny towards the village of Rusky Mochar, and then either to the shelter for tourists or to the television tower.

Another route starts in the village of Kostryno. You need to cross the river Uzh, then take the path across the field and the forest to the top of the Kychera mountain. Aftert that, it turns right to the Ternovsky stream. Then it runs through the beech forest up to the tourist shelter.

Due to snow storm, we chose the first option. We decided to visit the TV tower. But the journey still was not easy.Occasionally, we would make short stops to catch our breath.

Although our instructor Victor was walking ahead of us to stamp a trail, walking in the snow for four hours is difficult for an unprepared hiker. To make the journey easier, everyone should follow the same footsteps.

You will remember for the rest of your life the feeling when you look at the sunset from the very top of the mountain. It turns the environment into a real fairy tale. Biut you have to keep the pace and not to relax during the climb.

After a long manic photographing of everything around, we needed to dry ourselves and eat something, because the cold and long hike took a lot of energy.

Fortunately, there are a lot of good people in Transcarpathia. We found a shelter in the television tower. Wonderful kitty Julia and her friend – dog Martin – did not seem to mind.

Serhiy has been working on the tower for decades. He said that they stay there for weeks, so they have to take a lot of food. Therefore climbing with heavy bags is not easy. But the man is used to it and never complains. He loves his extreme job.

We took a stick and went to Janko Derevyany – the living legend of Javornik.

The journey from the tower to Janko’s place passed almost unnoticed.

And here we are! We are at Janko’s! He gave us tea with real spring water and herbs that he collects throughout the year. He told us many interesting things.

Since Javornik is a popular location for tourists, we met climbers from all over Ukraine, who had been resting there for several days.

They say that nature unites people, so despite our differences, we found many common interests.

After the long-awaited meeting with Janko and taking a rest in the wild, we walked down the serpentine path paved by Janko and Victor – our guide – a few years ago.

We left to come back again…
