Today, October 11, the Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of Ukraine Oleg Proskuryakov promised to take out contaminated soil from Transcarpathia, the press service of the RSA reported. This response was heard to journalists’ questions about pesticide contaminated soil in the village of Rokosovo in Khust district.
Since it is about not actually pesticides but the soil mixed with pesticides, its removal was not included in the plan of priority measures funded by the Environmental Protection Agency. The issue of the contaminated soil was raised further, the Minister explained and promised: "We will do everything necessary to ensure that in 2014 the issue is resolved."
According to the head of the Transcarpathian Regional State Administration, in 2010-2011, there was a complete inventory of pesticides. It showed that last year Transcarpathian region was almost clean. But, in Rokosovo, they stored containers, some of the chemicals from which contaminated the soil. The disposal of it can be carried out only through the Ministry of Environment. According to preliminary estimates, it will cost 6 million.
