The local community will work to preserve the Serednye castle

Currently, the main issue is the status of the castle. Although the ruins of the ancient fortress are located almost in the center of Serednye, in Uzhgorod district, the owner of the castle remains not determined.

   Serednye village head Emmerich Krytsky said that they had repeatedly appealed to the regional authorities and the relevant government agencies asking to define the status of the castle. But they still have not received the answer. The local community is ready to make a kind of tourist area near the fortress:

   – We plan to clean the area, restore the moat around the castle and fill it with water. The conservation of the fortress walls will require additional funds. I am convinced that the castle, as well as our wine cellars, can become a tourist highlight of the village. There are days when several tourist groups come here. Hungarians are also very interested in the fate of the fortress. Indeed, there is evidence that once the castle belonged to the family of Dobo – one of the richest families in Hungary.

   – Of course, we need to decide on the status of the castle, maybe it should be on the balance sheet of the regional property fund or the village council itself, – the head of the region Oleksandr Ledyda said. – The first thing that needs to be done is the conservation of walls and cleaning of the area. The work should be carried out not only at the expense of the village community, but also by attracting donations and volunteers. Regional authorities are ready to provide all possible assistance.
