Journalist Alla Hayatova reported about the incident on her Facebook page:

"The head of the military-patriotic organization "Carpathian Sich", known public figure T. Deyak, today, December 9, about 7.30, was detained along with two fellows by officers of the patrol police. Taras and friends were meeting the fallen volunteer Mykhailo Pokydchenko in Nyzhni Vorota to escort him to Mukachevo for funeral. Near the post, their car broke down. Witnesses say that during inspection of the car, the police saw in the trunk "items looking like weapons." Those were actually replicas, which the boys were carrying for showing in schools during lessons of patriotic education – today one is scheduled to be held in Svalyava. Even at a cursory glance at the "items", it is clear that those are replicas, and not dangerous things, but that and the explanations about the lessons that the "Carpathian Sich" hold regularly and publicly, was not enough."

Here is the official version. "Patrol police noticed a green car "Audi A6", standing on the road, in the way of other vehicles. This caused suspicion, and the policemen decided to come up and find out why the car was standing there in violation of traffic rules. As the passengers were wearing fatigues, it was decided under Article 34 of the "Law of Ukraine On the National Police" to examine the car, together with border guards of the Mukachevo Detachment.

Patrol policemen saw a suitcase with items that looked like weapons and ammunition. Since there were signs of illegal storage and transportation of weapons and ammunition, according to Part 1 of Article 263 of the Criminal Code, it was decided to detain the citizens and call the investigative team who recorded and seized the items in front of witnesses," – the Office of Patrol Police in Uzhgorod and Mukachevo informed.
