The European Week starts in Uzhgorod

From 12 to 15 of May, 2014, the Transcarpathian cell of the Union of diplomats of Ukraine jointly with the School of International Relations will hold the "European Week" in Uzhgorod National University.

The purpose of the event is introduction of student and teaching community to the history, the mentality, the present of European countries, the promotion of European values, and support for European development of our country.

As part of the European Week, they intend to pay special attention to our immediate neighbors. In this context, they plan to hold meetings with heads of consular missions accredited in the region – Hungary, Slovakia and Czech Republic. The format of the event is open lecture, during which it is proposed to discuss the development of the countries represented at the present stage, the pros and cons of EU integration, the main activities of the consular office.

This practice was launched by the head of the Transcarpathian branch of the Union of diplomats of Ukraine Alen Panov in 2012 and is a regular teaching and practical tool in the curriculum of the Faculty of international affairs in Uzhgorod National University. "Europe is not only geographical, economic or political category. It is a mentality, a kind of lifestyle. If we declare our intention to "live as Europeans," it would be nice, for starters, to understand the philosophy of the Europeans. Nothing will help us to do that better than the personal experience of communication. Therefore, there is a significant emphasis on educational work among young people. Youth are our future, this is an axiom. Our future depends on how we will bring them up. I hope our future will be great" – Alen Panov commented.
