The EU does not see opportunities to increase reverse gas supplies to Ukraine

The Vice-President of the European commission on energy issues Maroš Šefčovič says that now he does not see opportunities to increase reverse gas supplies from Europe to Ukraine.

He said that at a press conference in Brussels, the UNIAN reported.

He said that as of today the three countries that carry out reverse gas supplies to Ukraine – Slovakia, Poland and Hungary – "have used all their technical capabilities, especially Slovakia."

"It was not an easy technical solution. Now, these three countries are using all their capabilities, and so far I see no other ways to provide in short term additional reverse flows to the three existing ones," – he said.

The Vice President said that if Russia works "adequately, as a trade partner, there will be no problems with gas transit and filling of Ukrainian storage facilities until next winter."

Notably, Slovak and Hungarian gas routes today are the main ones for Ukraine that seeks to minimize fuel purchases from the "Gazprom". Also in mid-February, gas supplies from Poland resumed after a short interruption, but daily volumes of its imports are insignificant.
