Statement
of the Board of the Democratic Union of Hungarians of Ukraine (DUHU)
Regarding the provocative actions of the state authorities of Ukraine
against representatives of our public organization
On July 15, this year, in the village of Dyula of Vynogradiv district, officers of the national police searched the house of the deputy of the Transcarpathian Regional Council, a member of the Board of the DUHU, Karl Rezesh, on the grounds of suspicion of violating election law.
Given that we are sure of the law-abiding behavior of the deputy Karl Rezesh and the complete absense of any objective reasons for him to commit the offense he is charged with, we consider the actions of the National Police an intentional provocative act aimed at intimidating a politically active part of the Hungarian community during the current electoral campaign, the purpose of which is to disorient our voters and exacerbate interethnic relations in our country and the international relations between Ukraine and Hungary.
We appeal to the President of Ukraine V. Zelensky as the Guarantor of the constitutional rights of citizens and to the Prosecutor General of Ukraine with a request to urgently, by the election day, establish the validity and legitimacy of the actions of the National Police of Ukraine and to punish the officials involved to this action.
On behalf of the Board
L. L. Zubanych
Chairman
