The Day of Victory over Nazism in World War II was celebrated in Uzhgorod (+PHOTOS)

On May 9, the celebrations on the occasion of the 74th anniversary of the Victory over Nazism in the Second World War took place in Uzhgorod.

First, regional and city officials, veterans, law enforcement, military officers, diplomats and the public of the region laid flowers to the monument "Ukraine – to Liberators" on the Ukrainian-Slovak border. There, they were joined by veterans from Slovakia.   The ceremonial laying of flowers also took place at the monument "To volunteers of Transcarpathia – participants of the Second World War" on ​​Cyril and Methodius Square and at the eternal flame on the Hill of Glory.

Hundreds of people gathered to honor the soldiers who were killed during the war. At first, they laid flowers to the graves of the Transcarpathians, who were killed in the ATO on the Donbas, then the solemn procession marched down the alley with the graves of the soldiers that fell during the Second World War. After the laying of flowers to the eternal flame, the participants honored the memory of the victims with a minute of silence, and there was a festive fireworks to the sounds of the Ukrainian anthem.

Then, the concert of the Ukrainian Republic Capella NOW Credo took place in the atrium of the Transcarpathian Regional State Administration. The Capella consists of 82 highly-qualified artists from all over Ukraine. It is headed by the chief choirmaster of the National Opera of Ukraine Bogdan Plish. The performance of the Capella in Uzhgorod is symbolic, since the first performance during the tour of the Ukrainian Republican Capella in May 1919 took place in Uzhgorod.

Celebrations on the occasion of the Day of Victory over Nazism in the Second World War took place in all districts of the region.
