Today, the Day of Unification of Ukraine and the 73rd anniversary of the formation of the Transcarpathian region as part of Ukraine was celebrated in Uzhgorod. Traditionally, the celebrations began on Narodna Square, where young people unfurled a 100-meter-long Ukrainian flag in front of the monument to Taras Shevchenko.
Officials of Transcarpathian region Hennadiy Moskal and Mykhailo Rivis, Uzhgorod Mayor Bohdan Andriyiv, his deputies Igor Fartushok and Oleksandr Bilak, heads and representatives of law enforcement and security bodies, participants in the war in eastern Ukraine, military men, diplomats, clerics, representatives of civil society organizations laid flowers to the foot of the monument to Taras Shevchenko.
The participants of the celebrations marched with the 100-meter-long banner from Narodna Square to the monument to Augustine Voloshin on Nezalezhnist embankment, where they laid flowers to the monument, after which the procession with the 100-meter-long flag marched to the pedestrian bridge and united two banks of the Uzh as a symbol of the unity of the East and West of Ukraine.
The Honored Academic Transcarpathian Folk Choir performed "Prayer for Ukraine" and other songs, – Uzhgorod city council informed.
