June 22, 2015 marks 74 years since the beginning of the war between Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union. The casualties of Ukraine during the Second World War are estimated at 8-10 million lives, both military and civilian. This is more than casualities of France, Britain, Canada and the United States put together.
Today, in Uzhgorod, the public meeting was held on the Hill of Glory with the participation of war veterans, officials, veterans’ organizations. Its participants observed a minute of silence in memory of those who never returned from the front, who first met the enemy and fell victims of the most terrible war in human history, then laid baskets of flowers to the Memorial.
This day at 10.00, the nationwide Minute of memory of the victims in the bloody war was held across the country, flags of Ukraine with black ribbons on houses and buildings of state authorities, state enterprises, institutions and organizations were at half-mast and broadcast of entertainment programs was limited through relevant changes to radio and television programs, in order to commemorate those killed in the war of 1941-1945.
In cultural institutions, themed events were held on this occasion.
