This time, due to the coronavirus pandemic, the famous lawn was almost empty. However, a 7-meter bonfire was lit on Ivan Kupala’s night, the Mukachevo.net reported.

For the first time in many years, no guests from abroad came to the Shypit. Many Ukrainians also decided to postpone the trip due to quarantine restrictions and transportation problems. Those who arrived mostly hung out with family and close friends.

The only mass event took place on the night of Ivan Kupala, when a bonfire was lit. But it did not gather as many people as in previous years. Most of the participants came to see this event.

The festival itself was started in 1993 by the hippie community, who were persecuted during the Soviet Union. Its "father" Charlie from Uzhgorod has not missed any of them in 28 years.

Currently, the festival is attended by representatives of various modern subcultures – but the main rule for everyone is do not leave garbage behind.

Unfortunately, this year’s festival was marred by sad news – the sudden death of the famous hippie Boroda, who lived there for several years and was an example, a local guru for many young people.
