Hungarian Consul in the city of Beregovo in Transcarpathian region was declared persona non grata.
This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.
"This was reported today to the Ambassador of Hungary to Ukraine Erno Keskeny. He was served a note stating that, in accordance with Article 23 of the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations of 1963, due to activities inconsistent with the status of a consular officer, the Consul of the Consulate of Hungary in the city of Beregovo should leave the territory of Ukraine within the next 72 hours", – the report stated.
The Foreign Ministry expects the Hungarian party to refrain from any further hostile steps against Ukraine, and its officials to refrain from violations of Ukrainian legislation.
"We consider Ukrainian citizens of Hungarian origin as a unifying factor in relations between the two countries, and we call on our Hungarian partners to do the same", – the Foreign Ministry stated.
As it was reported, on September 19, the Ukrinform posted a video of issuance of Hungarian passports to citizens of Ukraine in the Hungarian Consulate in Beregovo. Then the new citizens of the country were treated with a glass of champagne and instructed not to tell about it to the Ukrainian authorities. The citizens of Ukraine pledged allegiance to Hungary.
