In the Center of minority cultures of Transcarpathia in Uzhgorod, there was a presentation of the poetry collection "Mire Droga Manusha" ("My people, I appeal to you") by a famous Roma poet and translator Raisa Nabaranchuk (pen name – Rani Romani).
The meeting with the author was attended by Roma community activists and students of Uzhgorod schools №13 and number 14, where Roma children study.
"Mire Droga Manusha" is Rani Romani’s first collection, which includes poetry in Roma, Ukrainian and Russian. A separate chapter of publications includes poems by classics of Ukrainian literature, including a well-known poem "Gypsy muse" by Lina Kostenko about a Romani poet from Poland Papusha (Bronislawa Weiss). At the presentation of the collection by Rani Romani, the poem for the first time was heard in the language of the people it is written about. In December 2015, the book was presented with the support of the International Fund "Renaissance" in Kyiv, in Roma Academic Music and Drama Theater "Romance".
At the presentation, Raisa Nabaranchuk told Uzhhorod students about Roma traditions and culture, her family, read out her favorite pieces. Ms. Raisa said that she would be very happy to do a small presentation tour of her book in other settlements of Transcarpathia, see how Roma people live there.
After the live communication, everyone received a copy of the collection of Raisa Nabaranchuk autographed by the author.
Such meetings provide a powerful motivation for Roma youth to study and develop their talents and abilities, to learn the history and culture of their people.
