The book “Ivan Chendey in the circle of contemporaries”: features of the edition

Shevchenko Prize winner Ivan Chendey was commemorated in Uzhgorod with the presentation of the books of memoirs and articles released by the Transcarpathian Regional Universal Scientific Library.   The book was published on the occasion of the 95th anniversary of the writer.

According to the author of the idea, one of the compilers, writer Oleksandr Havrosh, with this book the library shows new heights, becomed a truly scientific library, and the collection can compete with Kyiv publishers. "Chendey is more than a writer. He is a symbol of his era. The book contains not just the memories of one writer, it also contains the memories of a specific time, there are a lot of different situations there," – Oleksandr Havrosh says.

A friend of the writer, Ph.D. Ivan Meshko said that the book "Ivan Chendey in the circle of contemporaries" is "important in the history of Ukraine and the history of Ukrainian literature".

The collection consists of Ivan Chendey’s articles about artists, writers, current issues, which were published in periodicals.

It also contains almost 30 memories of literary critics, writers, friends and relatives from Ukraine and from abroad. The book contains works of the researcher of Ivan Chendey epistolary prepared by one of the compilers, Professor from Kyiv Sydor Kiral and the bibliography on the life and work of the writer.

The daughter of the writer, one of the compilers of the collection Maria Treschak says that today, when she took the book, I realized why my father was happy about his each new book like a child. To intrigue the readers, Maria divided memories into three categories: Chendey in my life; Chendey and I; me in the life of Chendey.    

As a tribute and as a duty, the family wants to republish the works of Ivan Chendey. Realizing that the time is difficult, they proposed the idea of ​​how you can honor the people without funding – by public initiative for renaming streets associated with the names of Ivan Chendey and Petro Skunts.
