Taras Shevchenko’s monument was opened in Khust

Celebrations on the occasion of opening the monument dedicated to Taras Shevchenko was held in Khust today, June 27, on the eve of the Constitution’s Day celebration of Ukraine. Its author is Igor Grechanik. The monument’s height is almost four meters and it is made of bronze. The monument was opened due to patronage support of MOE Minister Viktor Baloga and deputy council Pavlo Baloga.

The ceremony was attended by a head of Regional Council Ivan Baloga, Khust City Mayor Volodymyr Kashchuk, Khust District Council head Vasyl Hubal, local council deputies, the representatives of creative unions and the public.

There are nearly 600 monuments dedicated to Taras Shevchenko. The world community will celebrate the 200 anniversary of the Great Poet’s birth in 2014. This year announced as a year of Taras Shevchenko in Ukraine.

The author of the monument Igor Grechanyk expressed his gratitude to our dweller Viktor Baloga for his support in the monument’s creation. ‘This is really a great gesture that you can be proud of, which deserves the sincere gratitude and respect’, – said Igor Grechanyk. The artist said that recreated ‘his own’ Shevchenko, who lives in his imagination as a brilliant artist, inspired by God’s will.

Igor Grechanyk also said that this monument is embodied in two versions which are already set in Sofia and Baku, the other – here in Hust.
