“Sun children”: it is believed that God created them to bring more goodness in the world (PHOTOS)

Yesterday, as everywhere in the world, the Day of people with Down syndrome, or, as they are called, "sun children", was celebrated in Uzhgorod. The roundtable "Socialization of people with Down syndrome," which took place at Uzhgorod city council, was dedicated to this event.

It was attended by representatives of regional and city departments of social welfare, the deputy mayor of Uzhgorod Oleksandr Bilak, experts who deal with people with Down syndrome. The event was initiated by employees of the Medical and Social Rehabilitation Center "Way of Life" headed by the director Oleg Kirilenko, who moderated the "round table".

During the "round table", it was repeatedly stressed that Down syndrome is not a verdict and that the main task of parents and society is to help these people adapt to society and realize their potential. Indeed, in the UK, for example, three-quarters of people with Down syndrome work. In 1996, at the International Film Festival in Cannes, Belgian actor Pascal Duken with Down syndrome received the award for the best male role in the film "The Eighth Day". Spaniard Pablo Pineda received higher education degree. In 2009, the film "Me too" (Yotambien) with Pablo Pineda in the title role was presented at the film festival in San Sebastian. In Israel, people with Down syndrome successfully care for sick and professionally perform household duties, in the Netherlands, they work as waiters, in Spain, they effectively work in agriculture and more.

And then, there was already traditional event in the supermarket "Dastor", where volunteers from UzhNU Karina and Tetyana deployed an exhibition of products made by children from the Center "Way of Life". Young people with special needs gave a small concert to visitors of the supermarket. Here are some photos of this and some of the similar events in recent years.
