Strict control may be introduced on the borders with Hungary: the swine fever has been detected in the neighboring country

African swine fever was detected among wild boars in Hungary as early as April 19th. The World Health Organization reported on the first outbreak of African swine fever in Hungary.

Hence, strict control may be introduced again at the borders in order to prevent import of food products that may contain a source of infection.

It should be noted that in Hungary it is believed that the swine fever may be spreading throughout the country due to the uncontrolled migration of wild boars from Ukraine.

In particular, Hungary proposes to build a fence on the border with Ukraine. A thick fence with barbed wire should protect Hungary from wild boars from Transcarpathia, which can spread the African swine fever.

The border between the countries is located in the territory adjacent to Transcarpathia and has a lot of unprotected sections used by both wildlife and smugglers.

Recall that Hungary occasionally conducts additional checks at the border because of African swine fever, which increases waiting time for border crossing.
