However, the guest, who came to Uzhgorod district with his assistant, is called not St. Nicholas, but St. Nicolaus, and he came from Austria.
The initiator of this campaign was the Union of Austrian Friends, the Public Organization "The Flame of Peace -K.Zug-21" and the Union of Rescue Services of the two settlements – Neukirche and Durkelstein. The money for this trip was raised by Martin Heitzer, Siegfried Wernbacher and Johan Weikslbaum. The latter, in fact, played the role of the Austrian St. Nicholas. They found support in Uzhgorod in a representative of the Embassy of Peace in Ukraine, Victor Holin, who has established close ties with this organization.
The Austrian philanthropists visited the village of Onokovtsi, where they arranged a holiday for children of an educational institution and pupils of the local junior school – with songs, dances and gifts. The same thing happened in the educational institution in the village of Orikhovsti
Pavlo Mashika, the chairman of Onokivtsi village council, said: "It does not matter to children that they were greeted by the Austrian Nicolaus. The important thing is that they have received positive emotions and now they will be looking forward to their own St. Nicholas."
Here are some photographs from the visit of the Austrian Nicolaus.
