The round table on "Cooperation between Transcarpathian region and the Slovak Republic" began at the Regional Council. The event is attended by the first deputy chairman of the Regional Council Vasyl Brenzovych, the First Deputy Governor Andriy Serbaylo, the Adviser to the Minister of Finance Victor Kryvenko, the Consul General of Slovakia in Uzhgorod Janka Burianova, the Deputy Mayor of Uzhgorod Yaroslav Shafar, entrepreneurs of Transcarpathia and Slovakia.
The first deputy chairman of the regional council Vasyl Brenzovych greeted the participants.
"The main task, for which we have met in this room, is to discuss and to search for new opportunities and to identify key ways and prospects of cooperation of Transcarpathian business with Slovak partners to increase foreign trade and attract investment in the economy of our countries.
I think, because of its unique geographical location, Transcarpathia should become a regional leader in the development of foreign trade and attraction of foreign investment. It’s no secret that our region is the link that connects the country with Europe and the EU member countries are key partners in foreign trade, investment and cross-border cooperation of the region. So we are destined to cooperation", – Vasyl Brenzovych said.
The Consul General of Slovakia in Uzhgorod Janka Burianova noted that such an event is very important and expressed gratitude to the regional council for the organization of it, "We want to establish close contacts for business, we have to help each other. We are alike in mentality, there should not be barriers between us. It is also important that Slovak business showed in Slovakia that Transcarpathia is calm and tolerant region, that there is a safe business environment, there are hardworking people here," – the diplomat said.
The economic cooperation between Transcarpathian region and Slovakia has good prospects for development. Slovakia ranked 11th in foreign direct investments received by the economies of Transcarpathia. The neighbors have invested in our economy nearly 12 million U. S. dollars, accounting for 2.7% of the total amount of foreign direct investment.
Currently, in the region, there are 110 enterprises with foreign capital of Slovak origin.
Transcarpathian region is interested in attracting investment in light industry, mechanical engineering, food industry, agriculture, tourism, mining and processing.
The roundtable participants plan to discuss economic cooperation between Transcarpathia and Slovakia and to establish business contacts.
