After the introduction of the visa-free regime with the EU, there has been no rush at the state border of Ukraine within Transcarpathian region. This is evidenced by statistics.
– In total, from 11 to 27 of June, 233,995 Ukrainians have entered EU countries through international checkpoints located within Transcarpathian region, including 6003 people with biometric passports (the rest crossed the border using Schengen visas obtained before the introduction of the visa-free regime) – Hennadiy Moskal said. – It’s only three percent more than that in the same period before the introduction of the visa-free regime.
Out of more than 6,000 Ukrainian tourists traveling to the EU with biometric passports, only 8 people were denied entry. The reason was violation of rules of stay in the EU during previous trips, before the introduction of the visa-free regime. The most popular destination of traveling to the EU through Transcarpathia is Hungary (150 thousand people), followed by Romania (nearly 47,000 people), and Slovakia (over 36 people).
By the way, this year, the number of applicants for biometric passports in Transcarpathia has decreased. While in the first five months of 2016, biometric passports were issued to 50 thousand Transcarpathians, in the first five months of 2017 – about 45 thousand residents of the region.
