Since 2013, a Belarusian couple has been conducting subversive anti-Ukrainian activities in Zakarpattia

The perpetrators spread fake information aimed at discrediting the Ukrainian defense forces and inciting anti-Semitic sentiments in the region.

Both the husband and wife were caught and are citizens of Belarus. In 2013, they entered into fake marriages with Ukrainian citizens to obtain residence permits in Ukraine.

According to the security service, the hostile accomplices created several propaganda pages on social media, which they used to discredit the authorities, the defense forces, and incite anti-Semitic sentiments. Their actions were aimed at destabilizing the internal political situation in Zakarpattia.

During a search of their residence, computer equipment and communication tools were discovered, along with evidence of criminal activity. Based on the evidence gathered by the Security Service, both suspects were charged with Article 161, Part 1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (incitement of national, regional, racial, or religious enmity and hatred).

The SBU in Zakarpattia, together with investigators from the Berehove Regional Police Department of the National Police in Zakarpattia, carried out measures to uncover the crime under the procedural guidance of the Berehove District Prosecutor’s Office.
