Shmyhal reported on the coronavirus situation in Ukraine at the parliament meeting

Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal said that the coronavirus situation in Ukraine is developing in line with the scenario of Poland, which is much better than in other countries, such as Spain and Italy.

He said that while reporting to the people’s deputies on the anti-COVID-19 measures in Ukraine.

"Unfortunately, there has not been a single day when the number of people, who have recovered, exceed the number of people, who have contracted the disease. Over the past 24hrs, 402 people have been infected, the number is steadily declining – it is now 3.3%. That is we are already approaching the plateau and peak we were talking about," – Shmyhal said.

According to him, the main goal of the quarantine was to prevent overloading of the medical system and to allow hospitals to prepare for the counter measures.

He said that during this time, 2,271 ventilators had been purchased, 381 hospitals (more than 33,000 beds) and 8 aircrafts had been prepared to receive patients.

Shmyhal noted that of the 65 billion hryvnias allocated for the coronavirus fund, 20 billion was spent for the Pension Fund, and 6 billion was used to help the unemployed.

According to him, in recent months, 196,000 Ukrainians have officially registered at the state employment center.

The Prime Minister added that according to preliminary forecasts, the number of unemployed in Ukraine would increase by 9% this year.

When asked by the deputies when kindergartens would be opened and public transport would be launched, Shmyhal answered that the pandemic situation in Ukraine does not allow to do it yet.
