"I have not written about our Roma lately. And we have success!" – Oleg Grigoriev, the Commissioner for Human Rights in Transcarpathian region, shares news and photos about it.
He says:
"In the Chomonyn camp, the road has been repaired. Roma people themselves collected money for the road repair, part of the funds were allocated by the Renaissance Foundation under the project for a safe social infrastructure. Another kilometer to the camp itself is being repaired by the village council.
Roma themselves leveled and covered one kilometer of the road, which is almost the whole camp. Before that, it was just a real hell. One big swamp instead of streets. What a pleasure it was to see children and adults as a single self-organized mechanism leveling the road, hauling gravel.
Roma self-organization gives the first results in the form of understanding that the problems of the Roma community can only be solved through joint efforts. Since the minimum level of secure infrastructure is roads and lighting.
I am very happy. Be happy with me".
