Romania blocks oxygen to Ukrainian shuttle traders

November 15, Ukrainian-Romanian border new restrictions on imports of certain goods to Romania were implemented . Thus, citizens are now obliged to declare certain goods.

The new list of goods allowed for import to Romania includes: alcohol from 22 degrees – one liter, wine – four liters, cigarettes – 40 pieces, diesel or gasoline – one tank. Restrictions are also applied to oil, sugar, fruits, flour, seeds and even flowers. According to the decree of the National Tax Agency of Romania, the product from the list shall be carried by one person in that quanitity only once a week.

The new rules will certainly affect the speed of entry, – convinces the head of the customs post "Dyakove" Serhiy Andronenko. "Romanian side will spend 10 to 30 minutes to check one vehicle if the declaration if filled in, – said the publican in the comments to DW. –Therefore, we expect a significant decrease in flow – for about 70 percent "- predicts Andronenko.

"Without a doubt, these new rules "hit the pocket" of people living along Ukrainian-Romanian border, in particular those who earn their living with shuttle trading", says the expert of civil initiative "Europe without Barriers" Svitlana Mytryayeva.

"But on the other hand, these steps of Romania are logical, because it is defending its economic interests and ultimately fulfills the requirements Brussels, preparing to join the Schengen area" – said Mytryayeva. Similar restrictions on the import of fuel were introduced a year ago by Hungary.
