Officers of the special emergency rescue detachment, at the request of the Uzhgorod City Council, today cut holes in the Uzh, which got covered with ice due to a significant temperature drop. Solid ice cover poses a danger to the birds living in the open water body, including wild ducks and swans.
Four rescuers cut the ice near the main areas of bird feeding, in particular, near the TG Shevchenko Linguistic Gymnasium, the pedestrian bridge, etc.
According to the rescuers, the holes will also help to observe the ice thickness. Currently, the ice on the river is thin, so they ask Uzhgorod residents not to walk on it.
