“Public health” will be taught at Uzhgorod National University

This year, the magistracy for a new specialty – "Public health" – has been opened in UzhNU. Later this year, first students will be enrolled to the master’s program. Currently, training courses and curriculum are being prepared, the most relevant specializations within this specialty are being determined. This is a very broad specialty, in which many different specialists can be involved – physicians, lawyers, economists, physicists and environmentalists.

There will be no restrictions on admission: everyone who has a bachelor’s degree (or a specialist or master’s degree) will be able to enroll. In addition, the specialist does not change his or her major specialty, but will study public health as an additional broad competence in order to realize his or her major specialty in this area of preservation and strengthening of public health.

The establishment of the public health system in Ukraine at the central level is already completed, regional health centers, regional departments have been opened in the majority of regions. Public health functions should be presented even at the primary – community – level (for example, in united territorial communities), in particular, the position of the "field epidemiologist" will be in demand.

The total licensed number of students is 100, 50 students will be enrolled for the first year. There will be full-time and extramural learning options. They plan to employ Ukrainian and foreign lecturers, in particular, there is already an agreement with the leadership of the Faculty of Public Health of the Lithuanian University of Health Sciences on cooperation in this area, the official website of UzhNU informed.
