Prosecutor’s office begins pre-trial over information about illegal deforestation of primeval forests

The prosecutor’s office of Mukachevo has submitted information found on the Internet about illegal deforestation on the territory of the Volovec district to the Unified Register of pre-trial investigations.

According to Olexandr Bratyuk, the head of the prosecutor’s office of Mukachevo an article was published on the Internet recently. It was entitled "War has begun in Transcarpathia! Beech forests included in the list of the UNESCO world heritage are being clear-cut in the Volovec district". The article contained information about illegal deforestation in the suburbs of the settlements of Pashkivci, Perehresne, Scherbovec, Zhdeniyevo, Bukovec and Ivashkivci of the Volovec district. It was mentioned that the activity caused devastating damage to the ecosystem.

To verify the information and investigate the case the prosecutor’s office of Mukachevo has submitted an act to the Unified Register of pre-trial investigations.
