The project "Sofia’s place" is one of the small public initiative projects that is being implemented in Mukachevo this year. It provides for arrangement of the territory near the house where poet Sofia Malylio lived.
The public space "Sofia’s place" will include a reading room as a living memory of and tribute to Sofia Malylio.
The project, according to the idea of the authors, should be accessible to all, isolated from traffic, free, communicative and creative.
The area will be illuminated by lights on solar panels, video surveillance cameras will be installed. They plan to erect a two meters high wall and decorate it with painting – lines from Sofia Malylio’s poems, ornamental pattern.
Note: Sofia Malylio was born on December 3, 1926 in the village of Verkhni Vorota (then Vyshni Veretski) as the seventh child of peasants Mykhailo and Maria Malylio. In 1947, Sofia Malylio entered the French language department of the Ivan Franko Lviv State University. On November 2, 1948, she was arrested and in 1949, without trial, she was sentenced to 10 years of "labour camps" which she served in Kolyma and in Irkutsk region. In July 1956, she was released and rehabilitated.
