The presidential candidate Petro Poroshenko opposes the usurpation of power and is a supporter of the parliamentary-presidential form of government in the state.
He told this to journalists in Cherkasy on Tuesday, the UNIAN reported.
"I remain a supporter of parliamentary-presidential form of government, and first of all, I will fight for the people’s trust, to gain and maintain it," – Poroshenko said.
He is convinced that the President of Ukraine should be strong not because of statutory powers, but because of his or her authority and trust of people.
"The President must be strong not because of statutory powers, and but because of his or her authority and trust of the people. Then no one can prevent him or her from bringing order and peace" – the candidate said.
When asked whether it is reasonable to weaken the presidential branch during wartime, Poroshenko said: "During wartime, the country needs a dictator who can concentrate the power, ensuring victory over the enemy."
However Poroshenko believes that "using the unifying potential of the people, we will win the war quickly."
