Tomas-Edward Halikson, the Pope’s nuncio in Ukraine is in the regional center of Transcarpathia. During the meeting with the Mayor of Uzhgorod, nuncio pointed out that he is impressed not only by the Uzhgorod churches’ beauty, but also the cordiality of its inhabitants and the general atmosphere of the city.
They spoke about the Episcopal Residence (University Library), ‘domestic’ affairs of the church, the cemetery’s care, urban infrastructure etc. Nuncio will take in memory of the city the photos of Uzhgorod and Cathedral, which is one of the most significant buildings of the city.
Papal nuncio came to Uzhgorod on the occasion of the miraculous icon of the Mother of God copy transfer from the Pontifical Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore (Rome) to the oldest temple of the region Rotunda in the village of Goriany, the Church of the Holy Virgin and the religious procession, which will be held on this occasion on Sunday, – informs the City Council press service.
