Paving near the Wine cellar – at the expense of patrons?

The area near the architectural monument of national importance "XVIII century granary and wine cellar", located on the Rakoczy street in the regional center of Transcarpathia, is being improved at the expense of patrons. This rather unexpected response to the request to the Uzhgorod prosecutor was received by journalist Victoria Ryzhova, an activist of the social movement to preserve the historical character of Uzhgorod.

Who exactly was the benefactor providing the funds to make extensive changes in the area adjacent to the monument, was not reported.

According to the Director of Municipal Economy Department of Uzhgorod City Council O.Kasperov, currently the preparatory works for the construction or reconstruction of the building are not being carried out. They are only improving the surrounding area and fixing up lighting and paving for diversion of surface drains from the masonry foundations of the building.

O.Kasperov reports that the Department received the permission for related works in the Department of Culture of the Transcarpathian Regional State Administration.

Meanwhile, advertising banners, satellite antennas and clumsy extensions are attached illegally to the monument, located literally across the street from the city council building.

In each case, the community should carefully follow the destiny of the architecture monument
