Open statement of the Public Convention on the Uzhgorod City Council

The Open Statement of the Public Convention to the city community, NGOs, political parties, initiative groups was made public yesterday.

We publish it without amendments in full.
"It has been almost a year since the bloody events on Maidan Nezalezhnosti and the victory of the Revolution of Dignity. Being in a difficult economic crisis and actual war with Russia, overcoming fierce resistance of the old, thoroughly rotten, corrupt system and sabotage by yesterday’s "elite", Ukraine is still going through reforms and transformation of social relations. In other words, we are on the path of positive changes and we believe that this process is irreversible, since there is no way back.
At the same time we are also well aware that there have been little to no changes that everyone could see. The reason for this is the continuous sabotage by local authorities together with still unreformed and corrupt law enforcement and justice system. An egregious example is the situation in our home town, where yesterday’s minions of the Yanukovych regime headed by Victor Pogorelov once convicted for bribery and fraud with apartments took over the city by bribing judges and taking illegitimate decisions of City Council. At the session of the City Council to be held on Thursday February 19th, once again they are submitting draft decisions allowing for embezzlement of the city property and land (78 facilities owned by the city (!) in one package decision without any discussion with the community, more than 100 (!) land parcels, including the park at Lehotsky street 17, part of Petofi Square in front of the Customers Services Center, the green area at Hrushevsky street 35a, the yard at Volodymyrska 65, the area near the lake and part of the Pidzamkovy park).
Our position is clear and principled. Until Uzhgorod residents elect a new, legitimate Mayor and members of the City Council, the temporary management of the city has no right to make any decisions regarding the community property and land.

We urge the city community to support this demand at the session of the City Council on Thursday, February, 19th."
