This situation occurs regularly. Every now then, dozens of trucks line up to the cargo terminal at the checkpoint "Uzhgorod" on the border with Slovakia. Sometimes, this "truck snake" reaches the turn to Hranitna street.
And today we see it again. The reason is always the same – the carriers’ permits for crossing the border with Poland expire, so the main freight traffic goes through Slovakia. However, in that country, truck traffic on weekends is prohibited, so most drivers try to stay for the weekend on the Ukrainian side of the border.
This phenomenon has become too common, and the leadership of the region and Ukraine in general should pay attention to it. Because these lines cause a lot of problems – both for the drivers themselves and for the rest of the road users. Those are road safety issues, littered sidewalks, and many more.
