On the eve of the election day, in Uzhgorod we have a soap opera instead of debates – expert

According to the head of the Transcarpathian branch of the Committee of Voters of Ukraine Dmytro Tuzhansky, Transcarpathian voters have hot heard anythung meaningful from the candidates during the election campaign. Before the day of silence, on the last day of campaigning, unfortunately, there is not even a meager hint of meaningfulness in the election campaigns of the candidates in Transcarpathia.

All are busy with sleaze wars, and black PR, and training of vote-buying networks. This process reached a critical point of absurdity in Uzhgorod, where, by the way, there have been attempts to establish meaningful electoral debate between the community and the candidates.

But in recent days, we have been seeing here not discussions of programs or strategies for the development of communities but discussions of the corruption past of the candidates and their affilliation with this or that political grouping, wives of the candidates, their clothing or literacy, salaries of a candidate’s subordinates, trendiness of advertising techniques.

All this resembles a continuing Santa Barbara-style soap opera about war and friendship of all against all in Uzhgorod, when situational alliances were formed, mayors and city council secretaries changed, and carve-up continued – the expert said. During this campaign, the Committee of Voters of Ukraine throughout the country monitors the election process, the candidates’ campaigning activity, its content and violations of the law.
