Today we managed to record the dismantling of paving blocks on Teatralna Square, apparently in order to repair it.
The soil in these paces has sagged and "pits" have formed there, which posed danger for passers-by, not to mention cyclists or moms with strollers. Now, the blocks have been removed, and sunken spots have been filled. Later, apparently, they will replace the blocks. However, the problem is that the blocks, which the historic center of Uzhgorod is paved with, is of low quality, made of concrete, which eventually crumbles under the influence of atmospheric conditions and pedestrian activity. And sometimes, cars drive in the center too.
Those extremely bad blocks were laid about 30 years ago.
It would be nice to return high quality – stone, basalt – pavement to the city center. Fortunately, it is now in abundance, because a large amount of well-polished high-quality blocks were removed last year from Shvabska street. However, will the new government of the city be up for this challenging but, perhaps, decisive for the tourist appeal of Uzhgorod problem?
Perhaps, soon we will be able to ask them about it personally, given the transparency of the new city managers in communicating with the public.
