On Palm Sunday, Transcarpathians prayed for migrant workers (PHOTOS)

Palm Sunday is one of the most favorite holidays, which opens Easter cycle of rebirth, awakening of nature, arrival of spring heralds: cranes, swallows – sacred birds. Willow also symbolizes longevity, fullness of life, so each family after the service in the church bring home willow branches and put them under the icons so that family lived long and happily.

The community of Topchyno village in Tyachiv district on Sunday gathered in the church to pray for their relatives that are working far away from home. The priest Heorhiy Ofrim read out the long list of those who had left.  Those who were present had the impression that the whole community, except for the old and children, had left mountain village in search of a decent life. But according to the tradition, revered by Romanians, on Easter they all, like those birds that arrive in the spring from a distant foreign land, return to their native village, and for the money earned they will build new "palaces" for their children.

Blessed willow branches will be kept in Topchyno for years, because after the consecration, the old folks say, they acquire the properties of magic items that can prevent disease, cause rain, stop
