On March 6, new flood wave is expected in Transcarpathia

Heavy rains, that took place in Transcarpathia on Wednesday (1.03), led to a quick rise of water in the main water arteries. In the Latorytsya river, at night, water rose up to 70 cm and is slowly dropping. There was no release of water onto the floodplain, except Uzhgorod district between the villages of Velyki Heyivtsi and Tysaahtelek. In the Uzh river, water rose to 1.25 m overnight, and in the morning began to drop, there is no release of water onto the floodplain.

In the Teresva river, the peak rise was recorded at 1.5 m, in the morning the water began to gradually drop. In the Borzhava, at night, water rose by 80 cm, and today near the village of Verkhni Remety (Beregovo district), it is expected to rise up to 1.5 m without release of water onto the floodplain. In the Tisa, near Tyachiv, water rose by 70 cm, during the day at the border with Romania, it is expected to rise up to 1.5 m.

– No households or farmland were flooded due to yesterday’s rain – Hennadiy Moskal says. – However, on March 6, due to heavy rains, the formation of a new flood wave – much more severe than the current one – is expected in Transcarpathia. To minimize the effects of possible flooding, rescuers will be working in emergency mode.
