On June 15, Hungary, Austria, the Czech Republic and Slovakia will begin lifting restrictions on their borders

On Monday, the foreign ministers of Hungary, Austria, the Czech Republic and Slovakia discussed the issue of relaxing border restrictions between the countries, the MyHungary.Net reported.

Hungary, Austria, the Czech Republic and Slovakia have significant economic ties between the countries, as well as deep ties between their border communities in the region. Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto noted that Hungary’s annual trade with Austria and Slovakia last year was about 10 billion euros. Therefore, it is in Hungary’s interest to give a new impetus to economic and trade relations with these countries. The four countries have marked June 15 as the target date for the start of lifting restrictions on their borders, but this largely depends on the epidemiological situation. The protection of human life and health is the number one factor that should be taken into account when gradually lifting restrictions at the borders – Peter Szijjarto added.

The experience of relaxing restrictions on Hungary’s borders has been positive so far, given the recent decision to reopen the border between Hungary and Serbia, the Hungarian foreign minister said, adding that he plans to hold talks with his Polish and Slovenian counterparts on Wednesday. "We believe in expanding cooperation on this issue."
