Officials of Uzhgorod city council illegally were checking journalists’ IDs (+ documents)

On June 19, during the meeting of Uzhgorod city council, at the entrance to the session hall, the deputy mayor Volodymyr Flenko and the head of the municipal police and law enforcement department Serhiy Prosyanyk were checking journalists’ IDs. If journalists did not have documents, they did not let them enter the session hall. This was reported by the regional representative of the IMI.

Meanwhile, Flenko and Prosyanyk refused to show any documents that authorized them to check journalists’ IDs.

Under the current Regulations of Uzhgorod city council, the meeting of deputies is open for journalists and for the citizens of Ukraine.

The regional representative of the IMI in Transcarpathian region submitted a request to the city council asking who authorized the officials to check journalists’ IDs.

In response, the Secretary of Uzhgorod city council Bogdan Andriyiv informed – no legal acts, which would authorize Flenko and Prosyanyk to stand at the entrance to the session hall and check documents, had been adopted.

Since the officials were acting illegally, a complaint the mayor has been filed on this incidient. In this regard, the representative of the IMI is preparing a complaint to the police.
