Every year, Transcarpathian forestries sell Christmas trees to people and social institutions.
According to the director of Uzhgorod forestry Vasyl Kyi,
"Christmas trees are harvested during the clearing of glades, power line routes. But in Uzhgorod forestry, trees are cut only in special plantations. Nature is harmed only if Christmas trees are harvested illegally. In the vicinity of cities and towns, such felling can cause significant damage to the forest and disrupt the process of natural recovery. Forest protection workers face this phenomenon every year in the New Year period.
Dogs and video recorders help to catch poachers."
Forester of Antalovtsi forestry Vasyl Synychka:
"Uzhgorod forestry grows special plantations to provide citizens with Christmas trees. Every year, we expand these plantations to meet the needs of the population. Also we provide trees for kindergartens, social institutions and clergy."
In general, the Transcarpathian forest enterprises have selected and marked trees to be put up for sale. In total, 35,465 trees have been harvested for the New Year and Christmas, including 32,545 spruce trees and 2,920 fir trees. In 2015, 43,665 trees was harvested
