Winter Transcarpathia hospitably opens its embraces. Fans of skiing will find here beautiful snowy slopes, those, who look for relaxation, will find hot tubs and also tasty holiday dishes that surprise with diversity and authenticity. Here’s an alternatave list of ways to spend winter in Transcarpathia, to get an unforgettable experience and a boost of energy for a whole year.

1. Back to the past

Do not be surprised, Transcarpathia invites to go back to the past. Because local skansens (open air museum) are real time machines. One of them is the Museum of Folk Architecture and Life (Uzhgorod), the treasury of antiquity, folk customs, and traditions of the region. Quite another culture is displayed in Tisa Museum Complex (the village of Tisobyken, Vynogradiv district) or in the Old Village in Kolochava (Mizhhirya district) where the village of ancient Verkhovyna is recreated. Everything, that our ancestors have passed through the centuries, can be seen in the oldest and most valuable historical and architectural building of Uzhgorod – Uzhgorod castle.

2. Remember all

When the old year ends, and the new one begins, we often remember out loved ones who are not around. But one also should not forget those, who made the history of Transcarpathia, lived or worked here, defined its cultural and economic development, made our region known in the world. Those are Bela Bartok, Yosyp Bokshay, Ivan Firtsak, Imre Revesz and even Andy Warhol. You have a unique opportunity to see most of them by taking a route "mini-sculptures of Uzhgorod", dedicated to the most famous figures of the region.

3. Tasty food and more

Every Transcarpathian likes to have a good meals during the holidays. Tasty and nutritious food is a pleasure both for the eyes and for the stomach.   Of course, it cannot go without wine and various liqueurs. All this gastronomic goodies can be enjoyed in one place in January at the local festivals: "Carols in the old village" (Uzhgorod), or "Red Wine" (Mukachevo) and many others.

4. Nice present

New Year and Christmas holidays cannot be without gifts. Talented craftsmen and craftswomen offer everything from handmade pottery to homespun carpets. Transcarpathian cakes will also make a nice gift.

5. Green beauty

No holiday can be without a green beauty, a Christmas tree. No matter if it is live or artificial, in a pot or painted on glass, made of paper or wood, the most important thing is the joy it brings to children and adults.

Whichever of the suggested options you choose, let comfort, peace and harmony reign in your families, and let our Transcarpathia always flourish. Happy New Year to you and Merry Christmas!
