The International Neighborhood Day was celebrated at ‘Malyi Bereznyi – Ublia’ checkpoint today, May 12. The crossing point on Ukrainian-Slovak border was blocked from 2 a.m. till 11 p.m. for this purpose.
This year’s Neighborhood holiday has passed for the 11th time, changing its location from Malyi Bereznyi on Uzhgorod every year. Traditionally, it brought together representatives from almost all the Transcarpahia districts who represented the tourism industry and regional interestingness in the special tents.
The communication and amateur performances of musical bands is an integral part of the Neighborhood Day. Music was played and singers in the national clothes sang songs almost at each tent, the traditional dishes were on the tables, the festive participants, including officials, businessmen, diplomats, tourism representatives, education and culture walked along all of these.
The Ambassador of Ukraine in Slovakia Oleg Gavashi told during the official Neighborhood Day opening that this event was launched in 60th of the last century as a joint Victory Day celebration. Subsequently, it has revived as a partnership holiday that allows to meet the public, to communicate and to lay the further relations foundation once a year.
The head of the Regional State Administration Alexandr Ledyda signed an agreement on cooperation between the Transcarpathian region and the Koshice self-governing and Preshov regions. The neighboring agreements concluded villages of Ulich and Zabrod, as well as villages of Mlynky and Trostianytsia. And the Preshov and Uzhgorod schools exchanged their textbooks and educational literature.
