Mukachevo life hack: drain pipes as a tourist attraction (PHOTOS)

This time Mr. Oleg noted the peculiarity of Mukachevo "architecture": "In a civilized world, drain pipes are buried in the ground, where they are connected to the sewage. Meanwhile, in most of the Ukrainian cities, pipes from the roofs go down to the sidewalk, where they discharge their content right under the feet of passersby. However, there is one city where sewage systems are a genuine know-how. It is Mukachevo.

In Mukachevo, water from the roof pours right on the heads of the passersby, and the art of constructing drain pipes is flourishing. Mukachevo drain pipes can also be classified according to architectural styles. There are simple functionalist structures, and there are, for example, baroque – with forged holders. Almost rococo. Sometimes neighbors compete who has a longer drain pipe.

Presumably, Mukachevo drainage traditions date back to the Middle Ages – the times when sewage simply did not exist, and often all waste was poured right into the street. This ethno-cultural phenomenon deserves to be recorded and preserved. Perhaps even, we should grant Mukachevo drain pipes a protected status and show them to tourists – these pipes could easily compete with the Palanok and fill the local budget", – Oleg Olashin jokes.
