Mowers competed in the village of Veliatyno (PHOTOS)

An interesting idea, love for the native land and the work, obviously, this is the successful festival ‘recipe’, an example of which we observed in the village of Veliatyno in Khust district this Sunday. Mowers competed there for the second time. The action is devoted to their work commemoration, which at the same time demonstrated many other attractions of the original locality. People in the authentic costumes, folk bands on the stage, old household items presenting, delicious local cuisine and even the mowers’ dictionary – everything was intended to demonstrate how the village of Veliatyno is special. They treated guests with red wine from a huge boiler (people say that the guests have tasted at least 150 liters of strong drink) and a variety of local dishes from traditional dziama, pasulia, sheep milk cheese and to… salo in chocolate – local landladies approached creative to the festival treating.

All the attention and respect were draw of course to the mowers – skilled in this desired countryside work. Three dozen men participated in the competition (the mowing speed, quality and ability to rivet the scythe were assessed!).

The youngest turned 7 and the oldest is over 70 years old. At first they competed in the village field up to the semifinals, as the presenters joked on the stage ‘while we are entertaining here our mowers mowed not only Veliatyno but three neighbor villages as well!’. It should be noted that local women in the picturesque traditional costumes helped mowers during the whole actions. They added the holiday atmosphere to the festival by taking in their hands not only rakes and pitchforks to cope with the cut grass, but even showed the master class in dealing with a scythe… The super final with 5 mowers participation was held just in the epicenter of the festival territory, which specifically for this was kept from the guests’ feet. Although the competition has shown its leaders (by the way, honorary guests, including regional council deputies and its chairman Ivan Baloga participated in the competition in the first stages), eventually won everyone – participants and the festival guests. The main thing is the village of Veliatyno with the help of such a holiday and its atmosphere announced about its originality and, of course, hospitality. Surely: good idea added to the interesting holiday and love to the native village and careful performance with concern to details – that is exactly how are holidays created, which can be enrolled among the best in the region. We can bravely say about the mowers’ festival in the village of Veliatyno as made with love!
